Ross provides 14 tackles in the loss

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Football fell to Toledo, 45-7, on Saturday at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
 
Brady Olson started at quarterback for the Minutemen, passing 9-for-22 on the day for 106 yards with one touchdown against one interception. Olson connected with Taylor Edwards for a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, Edwards' first reception for a score this season.
 
Defensively, Da'Shon Ross had a career-high 14 tackles (0.5 TFL), the most stops by a Minuteman this season. Gerrell Johnson also had a double-digit day with 10 total tackles, including 1.0 TFL and an assisted sack.
 
Rico Arnold led the receiving corps with 44 yards on three catches, including reeling in a 39-yard grab in the fourth quarter. It came early in the Edwards scoring drive, a seven-play, 59-yard stretch that took 2:23 to find the end zone.
 
For Toledo, Carter Bradley was 11-for-18 starting at quarterback for 110 yards and threw for one touchdown. Dequan Finn added an 8-for-10 line, throwing for 102 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Koback carried the ball 11 times for 82 yards and had a pair of scores.
 
Toledo picked up a fumble off a Brady Olson sack at the UMass 34 yard-line and Dequan Finn converted for the Rockets on the next play with a 34-yard rushing TD at the 5:38 mark of the first quarter.
 
At the 10:17 mark of the second, Thomas Cluckey kicked a 29-yard field goal to push Toledo's lead to 10. It remained a 10-0 contest until the Rockets managed to score three touchdowns with less than five minutes to play in the half, two of which followed UMass interceptions.
 
Toledo added one touchdown apiece in the third and fourth quarters, before Olson marched the Minutemen downfield and connected with Edwards for the touchdown with 9:31 on the clock.
 
The Minutemen play next on Sat., Oct. 9, hosting UConn in a 3:30 p.m. game at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
