Minutewomen Fall To Brown, 5-2

AMHERST, Mass. – Anna Napadiy and Martina Bocchi won as a doubles pairing and individually at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively; however, the University of Massachusetts tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to the visiting-Brown Bears at the Bay Road Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Napadiy and Bocchi opened the day with a 6-0 shutout of Julia Newman and Ryan Peus during the No. 1 doubles match, but the Bears secured the team point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles duo's strong day continued in singles play as Napadiy won at No. 1 singles shortly before Bocchi sealed a three-set triumph at No. 2.

After the Bears pushed their lead to 3-0 with wins on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts, Napadiy put the Minutewomen on the board with her 6-4, 6-4 victory over All-Ivy League standout Devon Jack.

Bocchi inched the Minutewomen closer to tying as she fought for her 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 outcome over another All-Ivy League competitor, Courtney Kowalsky, at No. 2.

Massachusetts was ultimately unable to complete the rallying effort as the Bears secured match victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the 5-2 win.

The Minutewomen enter their bye-week now and will not compete again until a March 17-19 road trip takes the Maroon and White through Louisiana to Nicholls State (March 17), Southeastern Louisiana (March 18) and the University of New Orleans (March 19).
