Tre Mitchell Picks Up Third Straight A-10 Rookie Of The Week Nod

Mitchell is the first Minuteman since 2003-04 to be the Rookie of the Week four times in a season
AMHERST, Mass. – For the third straight week, and fourth time this season, Tre Mitchell is the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native averaged 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in two wins last week for the Minutemen.
On Tuesday against St. Louis, Mitchell had 24 points (22 in the second half), three rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 32 minutes in a 67-63 win, the Minutemen's first win over the Billikens since 2015. He followed it up with 15 points (all in the second half) and 19 rebounds in a 57-49 win at Fordham on Saturday, recording his fourth double-double of the year and finishing one rebound shy of becoming the first Minuteman with 20 rebounds in a game since Jim Town on Dec. 12, 1976. The Fordham victory brought the conference win total to six, the most since the 2015-16 season.
Mitchell is fifth in the conference and sixth in the NCAA among freshmen averaging 16.8 points per game this season, while his 19.4 points per game in conference is second in the league behind only Dayton's Obi Toppin (19.6).
This is the seventh time this season that a Minuteman has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, the most for Massachusetts since the 2003-04 season. It's also the first time one player has earned three straight rookie of the week nods since Rhode Island's E.C. Matthews in 2013-14, and the first time a Minuteman has earned the honor four times in a season since Rashaun Freeman (2003-04).
Mitchell and the Minutemen are back at home on Wednesday night to host VCU at the Mullins Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on NESNplus.
