Women’s Hoops Takes Exhibition from UMass Dartmouth, 89-39

McCormick logs double-double, Donnelly narrowly misses feat in final preseason tune-up
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts junior Paige McCormick had a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and freshman Maeve Donnelly was just short with 12 rebounds and nine blocks, as the Minutewomen defeated UMass Dartmouth, 89-39, on Monday night in an exhibition game at the Mullins Center.
Sophomore Destiney Philoxy led all scorers with 23 points on the night, also dishing out seven assists, while senior Vashnie Perry added 20 points, eight steals and six boards.
The Minutewomen carried a 39-20 lead into the locker room at halftime and cemented the win with a 26-3 run to open the third quarter.
For the Corsairs, Jessica Carroll put down a team-best 12 points in the loss. Kayla McMahon pulled down seven rebounds and Ashley Brown logged five dimes.
Massachusetts dominated the paint with a 56-16 scoring advantage and added 28 points via the fast break.
The Minutewomen begin the regular season on Tues., Nov. 5 with a 4:30 p.m. game vs. in-state foe Merrimack at the Mullins Center.
