First Half Run Nets La Salle 60-51 Win Over Men's Hoops

Rashaan Holloway posts 15 point, 14 rebounds for second double-double of the year.
PHILADELPHIA - An early offensive start was the difference maker on Wednesday night as La Salle held off the UMass basketball team for a 61-50 win at Tom Gola Arena. The Explorers used a 12-0 run in the first half after the Minutemen had taken its only lead of the night and managed to keep the game no closer than two possessions for the remainder of the contest.
UMass (8-13, 1-7 A-10) will remain in Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon. The 4:30 PM tip-off will be televised on the NBC Sports network.
The Minutemen were led by a double-double from Rashaan Holloway who posted 15 points and 14 rebounds. Jonathan Laurent was the only other UMass player to reach double-figures with 10 points to go with six rebounds.
Overall, it was a tough shooting night for UMass which connected on just 16-of-71 attempts (22.5%) including 4-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Minutemen did haul in 51 rebounds which marked the first time since Feb. 11, 2010 to grab 50-or-more boards in a game.
La Salle (5-14, 3-4 A-10) was led by 14 points from Saul Phiri, 12 points from Isiah Deas and 11 points from David Beatty. The Explorers shot just 34 percent from the floor for the game, but were efficient in the first half hitting 11-of-26 (42.3%) of their field goals including 7-of-13 from range to take a 36-28 lead into intermission.
Midway through the second half, UMass was able to cut the lead to five points following a three-pointer and two free throws from Pipkins, but La Salle stretched the lead back to double-figures, 52-39, with a 10-to-2 run culminating at the 4:47 mark.
