- The UMass Athletics development arm, The Minutemen Club, has announced the rebranding of its unrestricted annual giving fund to the Maroon Excellence Fund. The renamed fund will serve as the official avenue for individuals who want to support all 21 athletic programs. Giving to the Maroon Excellence Fund will directly impact the lives of more than 650 student-athletes because it allows the funds to be used toward the greatest area of impact.
Donations to the Maroon Excellence Fund will have an immediate impact as contributions will be allocated to areas with the greatest need. Donations will help fund necessary areas to allow the department to support competitive excellence and positively impact the overall student-athlete experience. These include support for academic success, behavioral health and wellness, sports performance, sports medicine, student-athlete development and facilities.
"After significant discussion with alumni and supporters, we felt it was necessary to rebrand the main designation for annual support, to help focus more efforts on unrestricted giving," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Dave Biancamano. "The Maroon Excellence Fund will play a critical role in accomplishing our goals as we continue to achieve both athletic and competitive excellence for all our student-athletes and programs."
Previously, unrestricted giving to athletics was designated to the Minuteman Club fund. The Minutemen Club will remain the umbrella organization for all athletic fundraising activity, consisting of the rebranded Maroon Excellence Fund, as well as sport-specific giving, special events, capital project support and gift planning.
For the 2018-19 season, any associated giving benefits to the Maroon Excellence Fund will mirror those currently offered with support to the Minutemen Club fund. Donors can expect updated benefits over the next year that will create more consistency for those giving to UMass Athletics.
