Duo Receives UMass Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

Fox of baseball and Blanchette of softball earn the weekly award.
AMHERST, Mass. – Ty Fox of baseball and Kelsey Blanchette of softball earned UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union, announced on Tuesday. The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon this week.
The luncheon takes place on Wednesday, February 25, at noon in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons. Cost to attend is $17 (15.30 for UMass Alumni).
On a 3-0 week for the Minutemen, Fox posted a .667 batting average, a .700 on base percentage and a 1.833 slugging percentage. The redshirt freshman tallied four hits, including a double and two home runs, five runs and six RBI. Fox tallied his first career double and first home run in the 10-6 win in game two of the series, before adding his second collegiate homer in game three's 7-5 victory. He contributed three runs on two hits in game two, and had two runs on two hits in game three. The Rochester Hills, Michigan, native made his collegiate debut entering game one on Friday as the designated hitter, where he registered an RBI.
In the field, Fox totaled five putouts and had no errors.
At the Joan Joyce Classic in Boca Raton, Florida, Blanchette had the biggest game of her early career against the University of Kansas, earning her first career shutout in an 8-0 win for the Minutewomen. Blanchette allowed just five hits and struck out two to earn her second win of the season.
