Senior wide receiver led UMass in receiving yards and touchdown catches during 2017
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - University of Massachusetts football wide receiver Andy Isabella earned placement on the 2018 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., on Thursday. Isabella spearheaded a talented and deep UMass receivers corps in 2017 with 65 receptions for 1,020 yards and 10 touchdown catches - all single-season career-highs for the then-junior.
Isabella, who started all 12 games, also posted team highs in receiving yards per contest (85.0), tied for the top spot in yards per reception (15.7) and was second in receptions per game (5.4) behind only all-American tight end Adam Breneman. The Mayfield, Ohio, native ranked among the top wide receivers in the nation for touchdown catches (t-16th), receiving yards per game (27th) and receptions per game (44th). He was also one  o only 10 players across FBS with three or more touchdowns of 65 or more yards (t-7th; 3): Georgia Southern (68 yards), Mississippi State (69) and Maine (69).
The 5-foot-9, 185-point speedster enters his senior season among the program's all-time bests for touchdown catches (17; third), receptions per game (3.8; fifth), total receptions (129; seventh) and receiving yards (1,828; eighth).
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding FBS receiver in college football. Any player who catches a pass is eligible for the award, regardless of position. The award recipient is selected by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a collection of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners and other former receivers.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., will announce the 10 Biletnikoff Award semifinalists on Nov. 12. The three finalists will be declared on Nov. 20. The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 6, on The Home Depot College Football Awards, broadcast live from 7-9 PM (EST) on ESPN. College and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
