Season Opener
Four Minutemen reached double-figures in the scoring column as UMass opened up its 2018-19 regular-season with an 83-75 win over UMass Lowell on Tuesday. Carl Pierre led all scorers with a game-high 21 points as he reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time in his career while reaching double-figures in his eighth straight game dating back to last season. Luwane Pipkins added 19 points while Curtis Cobb and Jonathan Laurent each eclipsed 10 points while the junior Laurent added five assists and four boards. The Minutemen shot over 50-percent from the field in the win and held the River Hawks to 40-percent shooting.
Home Sweet Home
The Minutemen will play their first five games in front of the home crowd at the Mullins Center as they continue the homestand with New Hampshire on Friday to wrap up the first week of play. UMass will faceoff against in-state foe Harvard on Tuesday of next week before beginning the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational at home by hosting Howard on Nov. 16 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 19.

Guards Luwane Pipkins (19) and Carl Pierre (21) combined for 40 points in the season opener for the ninth time in their careers dating back to Pierre's freshman season a year ago. The duo combined for a whopping 69 points of UMass' 86 points in a win over La Salle (1/10/18), where Pipkins set a new program record for points in a single game. The duo went on a streak of combining for 40 points in five of six games (1/30-2/21) last season during the heart of Atlantic 10 play.
