UMASS MEN'S BASKETBALL - UMASS LOWELL PREVIEW
• It's the start of a new campaign as the 2018-19 season-opening tipoff is finally here. The Minutemen open head coach Matt McCall's second season in Amherst by hosting in-state rival UMass Lowell to kick off the year. Bragging rights are on the line as this is part of the newly formed Kennedy Cup Challenge pitting both schools against each other in all sports played during a given academic year.
• The game will be televised on Eleven Sports and NESNplus at approximately 7:00 PM as part of a doubleheader with the women's team as the Minutewomen open their season at 4:30 PM against Sacred Heart. Tim Neverett (play-by-play) and Frank Sullivan (analyst) will have the call.
• On the radio airwaves, the game will be broadcast on the UMass Sports Network anchored by flagship station 105.5 FM WEEI and online via the TuneIn App. New Voice of the Minutemen Jay Burnham makes his debut and will be joined courtside by former Minuteman Tim Collins.
• UMass defeated UMass Lowell 74-69 last season thanks to a late 8-to-0 run and five different players scored in double figures led by 12 from Rashaan Holloway and Unique McLean. Luwane Pipkins and Malik Hines each scored 11 points, while Rayshawn Miller scored 10 to lead the Minutemen.
• Overall, UMass is 6-2 all-time against the River Hawks and this will be the third consecutive years the two schools have opened the year against each other.
• UMass is led by Luwane Pipkins who is the top returning scorer in the Atlantic 10 this season after notching 21.2 points per game last year. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team after a breakout sophomore campaign. He is one of just six players in program history to average over 21 points a game in a single-season joining the likes of Julius Erving and Marcus Camby. He also became the 51st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.
• Joining Pipkins in the returning line-up will be Carl Pierre, the nation's top three-point shooting freshman last year, and Rashaan Holloway who is one of the top big men in the league.
• Bolstering the depth of the Minutemen this season will be the addition of four key transfers who sat out last season. Keon Clergeot, Curtis Cobb, Kieran Hayward and Jonathan Laurent are all expected to make an immediate impact and will give UMass additional fire power and athleticism.
• In addition to the now-eligible transfers, a trio of freshmen will also work themselves into the rotation as Sy Chatman, Samba Diallo and Tre Wood provide minutes with high potential. The Minutemen will get one more boost in December when Djery Baptiste arrives following his graduation from Vanderbilt. The grad transfer will be immediately eligible with three semesters remaining to play for UMass.

UMass will return home on Friday, Nov. 9 to host New Hampshire as part of a five-game home stand at the Mullins Center. The game will be streamed digitally on ESPN+ (subscription).
