UMASS MEN'S BASKETBALL - QUINNIPIAC PREVIEW

• Coming off a split Thanksgiving weekend in Las Vegas, the UMass basketball team returns home for a pair of games starting Wednesday with Quinnipiac. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the women's team which hosts North Dakota starting at 4:30 PM.

• The game will be televised on ELEVEN SPORTS and NESN with Tim Neverett (play-by-play) and Frank Sullivan (analyst) calling the action. ELEVEN is available to 55 million homes in HD on nationwide cable systems such as DIRECTV (channel 623), AT&T U-verse (1665), Verizon Fios (597), RCN (571), Atlantic Broadband (501), Hawaiian Telcom (1091), and Google Fiber (251). In addition, it is carried on Sony PlayStation Vue and Fubo.tv.

• As part of the Atlantic 10 package, the game will also be streamed online via ESPN+ which is available on mobile, desktop and OTT devices such as Apple TV and Roku. ESPN+ is a subscription service ($4.99 month/49.99 annually) which is the official home for all Atlantic 10 events plus many others.

• On the radio airwaves, the game will be broadcast on the UMass Sports Network anchored by flagship station 105.5 FM WEEI and online via the TuneIn App. New Voice of the Minutemen Jay Burnham will be joined courtside by Adam Frenier.

• UMass is 3-1 all-time in the recently developed series with Quinnipiac. The series began in 2009 with a 62-58 win for the Minutemen at the Mullins Center. The four games have been tightly contested with the average margin of victory at three points including last year's 68-62 win for the Bobcats in Hampden.

• The Minutemen used a hot start in their 84-62 win over Southern Illinois jumping out on a 16-to-2 run in the opening minutes of play before finishing the game with 15 made three-pointers. In the loss to No. 6 Nevada, the Minutemen kept pace with the Wolfpack through the first half, but could not get enough defensive stops in the second half. Luwane Pipkins scored 30 points in the loss as five Minutemen reached double-figures overall.

• UMass is led again this season by Pipkins who is the top returning scorer in the Atlantic 10 after notching 21.2 points per game last year. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team after a breakout sophomore campaign. He is one of just six players in program history to average over 21 points a game in a single-season joining the likes of Julius Erving and Marcus Camby. He also became the 51st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for his career.

• With 1,152 points, Pipkins is currently tied for 31st all-time in career points with Chris Lowe (2005-2009; 1,152 pts). Next on the list is Rafer Giles (1987-1991; 1,163 pts). If Pipkins maintains his current scoring average, he could finish among UMass' top-10 all-time scorers as a junior.

• In the early goings of the season, UMass has the best scoring average (83.4 pts) in the Atlantic 10 and ranks second in field goal percentage (48.1). Defensively, UMass ranks 12th in the league giving up 74.9 points per night.

• For the season, five Minutemen are now averaging double figures led by Pipkins' 19.6 per night. A pair of Minutemen are now over 11 points a night in Carl Pierre (11.1) and Jonathan Laurent (11.1). Both Holloway (10.6) and Cobb (10.1) round out the top scorers. Holloway and Pipkins each lead the Minutemen in rebounding (6.1), while Pipkins also leads the team in assists (6.3).
