Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS –University of Massachusetts men's and women's cross country programs have been recognized for their work in the classroom as both squads were recently named to a list of Division I All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA).

All teams making the lists, 431 in total, earned distinction from the USTFCCCA for their efforts both athletically and academically with cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Minutewomen, with a 3.62 team GPA, tied for 40th out of 242 teams honored. The Minutemen boast a team GPA of 3.36, tying them for 56th out of 189 men's squads.
 
At the conclusion of the 2016 cross country season, both senior Paolo Tavares and redshirt junior Heather MacLean represented the Minutemen and Minutewomen as members of the Atlantic 10 Men and Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Teams for their performance at the A-10 Championships and academic excellence.
