O'Dwyer, Yrazusta Named UMass Athletes of the Week

November 06, 2017 | Men's Soccer, Tennis, Athletics Department

The UMass Sports Luncheon Committee named men's soccer senior midfielder Connor O'Dwyer and senior tennis team captain Ana Yrazusta as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday. The pair will be recognized on Wed., Nov. 8 at the weekly sports luncheon at the Berkshire Dining Commons.

O'Dwyer scored his second goal of the season in the 31st-minute in a 1-0 win over Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon to propel No. 25-ranked men's soccer team into the Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals for the first time since 2008. O'Dwyer's goal came off one of the Minutemen's four corner kicks, a header into the far post off the corner service from Alex DeSantis. The top-seeded Minutemen will take on No. 5-seeded Fordham in the semifinals on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Yrazusta put forth a perfect effort at the Big Green Invitational with a 6-0 record combined between action at No. 1 singles (3-0) and No. 1 doubles (3-0; partnered with Laura Moreno). She defeated members of the Dartmouth, Minnesota and Yale squads at No. 1 singles, which included the program aces at Minnesota (Caroline Ryba) and Dartmouth (Kristina Mathis), who were both nationally-ranked players during the previous spring season. Yrazusta was named the player of the tournament on Sunday following her performance while she and Moreno took home the best doubles pair title as well.
