Donations to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is once again holding a toy drive at upcoming UMass basketball and hockey games to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, Massachusetts.

SAAC representatives will be on hand at the Mullins Center entrances accepting new, unwrapped toys during the Fri., Dec. 1 hockey game against UConn as well as the Sat., Dec. 9 men's basketball game versus Providence and Sun., Dec. 10 women's basketball matchup with Saint Peter's.

Those donating are asked to avoid toys made of latex and foam for allergy purposes. There is a particular need this year for items geared toward teenagers, however in general many of the children seem to favor interactive toys that light up or make sounds.

Over the past decade, UMass student-athletes and the Western Massachusetts community have teamed up to contribute hundreds of toys.
