UMass Student-Athletes Celebrate Banner Year

AMHERST, Massachusetts – University of Massachusetts Athletics celebrates a banner 2016-17 academic year for its nearly 650 student-athletes.

The 2015-16 grade point average (GPA) for all sports programs was a 3.016. The cumulative GPA at the end of the spring semester for all sports programs was a 3.095, the highest ever recorded at Massachusetts. Minutewomen programs had their highest cumulative GPA in both the fall and spring semesters.

Additionally, 180 student-athletes earned Dean's List recognition (min. 3.5 GPA) in the fall and 154 in the spring. 26 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester and 20 in the spring semester. 48 student-athletes were members of the Commonwealth Honors College this academic year. The Maroon Scholars List included 362 student-athletes with a min. GPA of 3.0.

Massachusetts led the league with 297 total (fall, winter, spring) Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selections. The 3,377 total selections for all three seasons from the entire league in 2016-17 set the conference record for the most in a year.
