Tennis Sweeps Long Island, 7-0, Saturday At Bay Road

AMHERST, Mass. - In the opening match of the weekend doubleheader, the UMass women's tennis team defeated Long Island 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The Minutewomen will return to home action on Sunday afternoon when St. John's visits.
UMass started Saturday's match with three wins in doubles play to take the opening point. Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Anna Woosley and Ruth Crawford also won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, followed by another 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles by Arielle Griffin and Laura Moreno.
Singles play saw UMass win all six matches in straight sets. Yrazusta, Aarzoo Malik, and Woosley won at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to seal the team win.
Griffin picked up a win at No. 5 singles, while Benito won at No. 6 singles. Crawford won at No. 1 singles to round out the performances of the day.
