Holder, Pipkins Named Student-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics has selected Ryan Holder and Luwane Pipkins as its Student-Athletes of the Week for Dec. 5-11.
 
Holder, a freshman from Baltimore, Maryland, averaged 14 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds as the women's basketball team split a pair of games last week with a loss at Hofstra and a home win over Bryant on Saturday. The freshman netted 12 points, three rebounds, two blocks and an assist in the loss to the Pride on Wednesday night. She helped lead the winning effort over the Bulldogs with 16 points, a season-high eight assists, four rebounds and two blocks. For the year, the Baltimore native is the team's third leading scorer at 12.9 points per game along with a 4.2 rebound per game average.
 
Pipkins, a freshman from Chicago, Illinois, averaged 14.5 points with 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game in a resounding 72-48 win over Pacific and narrow 75-69 loss at Providence. He shot 40.0 percent overall (10-of-25) and was even more accurate from distance at 42.9 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-21). Pipkins scored all nine of his points on three-pointers as the Minutemen erased a five-point first-half deficit for a 24-point thumping of Pacific. He added a personal-best six made three-pointers at Providence, accounting for 18 of his 20 points. He tallied 15 of his points in the second half alone as he led the comeback charge for the Minutemen at Providence.
