Minutemen Fall, 46-40, in Season Finale at Hawai’i

AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts football concluded the 2016 season at University of Hawai'i on Saturday. The Minutemen fell to the Rainbow Warriors, 46-40, at Aloha Stadium.
 
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Andrew Ford was 24-of-38 for 342 yards and three passing touchdowns. Sophomore Andy Isabella (134 yards) and redshirt senior Jalen Williams (133 yards) each collected seven receptions and a touchdown.
 
Sophomore Marquis Young totaled 117 yards on 19 carries with one score. Today's game marked his seventh career 100+ yard outing. He also hauled in 17 yards receiving.
 
The Rainbow Warriors struck first with a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dru Brown to tight end Dakota Torres at the 11:11 mark of the first quarter.
 
Redshirt junior Logan Laurent hit a 37-yard field goal at the 7:07 mark of the first quarter. Hawai'i countered with its own 37-yard field goal from Rigoberto Sanchez.
 
Ford connected with redshirt junior tight end Adam Breneman for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Mike Caggiano's extra point was good to tie the game at 10. It was Breneman's eighth receiving scores of the season.
 
The Rainbow Warriors took a 17-10 lead with a 43-yard touchdown pass as Brown found receiver Dylan Collie. Laurent cut it to 17-13 with a 38-yard field goal at the 8:32 mark of the second quarter. Hawai'i took a 24-13 lead to the locker room at halftime after an 11-yard touchdown at the 3:17 mark of the second quarter.
 
The Minutemen scored 13 points to open the first half. Isabella hauled in a 39-yard touchdown reception, his seventh of the season, while Williams brought down a 27-yard Ford pass in the end zone, his sixth score of the season. UMass led 26-24 at the 7:46 mark of the third quarter.
 
The Minutemen had a bad snap under center and Ford recovered for the Hawai'i safety, tying the game at 26 with 4:31 to play in the third quarter. Hawai'i took a 33-26 lead with 2:28 to play in the third quarter as Brown found Collie for a 31-yard touchdown pass.
 
UMass and Hawai'i traded two touchdowns each in the fourth quarter for a final score of 46-40. Redshirt senior fullback John Robinson-Woodgett (one yard) and Young (18 yards) rushed for scores for the Minutemen.
