Garber Field Renovations Update (July 29, 2015)
July 29, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
AMHERST, Mass. - The renovation work currently underway on Garber Field nears completion as the new turf surface has arrived in Amherst. The home of the University of Massachusetts men's and women's lacrosse programs, Garber Field is receiving a complete renovation ahead of the 2015-16 school year.
Greg Cannella's Minutemen and Angela McMahon's Minutewomen will compete on a new, longer turf surface starting in the Fall. Prior to beginning the process of laying out the turf, the construction team on-site finished the thin, concrete barrier representing the edge of the field and put a rock undercoating below where the turf will sit once installed.
The construction project at Garber Field is one of many athletic facility upgrades the University of Massachusetts has invested in recently. The John Francis Kennedy Champions Center for UMass Basketball is currently under construction while the Football Performance Center and Martin & Richard Jacobson Football Press and Skybox Complex were finished less than one year ago. Ground was broken on a new facility for the field hockey program in May 2015 as well while the rowing program received a state-of-the-art boathouse on the Connecticut River in 2013.
