Minutemen Set to Play Coastal Carolina in 2017, 2018

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts football has entered into a future home-and-home series with Coastal Carolina University for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, it was announced by Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford on Thursday.
The Minutemen and the Chanticleers will open the season at Benton Field at Brooks Stadium, in Conway, S.C., on Sept. 2, 2017. Coastal Carolina will travel to play in Amherst on Sat., Oct. 20, 2018.
"We appreciate the opportunity to play Coastal Carolina in a home-and-home series to balance our 2017 and 2018 schedules," Bamford said. "Under Coach Moglia, Coastal Carolina has proven to be a fine FCS program that will soon successfully transition to FBS play in the Sun Belt."
Earlier this month, the Minutemen announced the completion of the 2016 schedule with the addition of games vs. Boston College (Gillette Stadium) and Florida International (McGuirk). The addition of Coastal Carolina completes the 2017 slate.
Coastal Carolina moves to full FBS status as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2017. Starting football in 2003, the Chanticleers have earned six NCAA FCS playoff berths (2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015) and won seven Big South titles (2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014). Coastal Carolina is one of six teams to reach the NCAA Division I Championship in each of the last four years.
Head coach Joe Moglia is renowned for his work in both football and business. He served as TD Ameritrade's Chief Executive Officer for seven years (2001-08). Moglia, who concluded his 23rd year in coaching in 2015, is also Chairman of the Board for TD Ameritrade, a position he has held since 2008, and serves as the Chair of the Coastal Carolina athletic division, serving as the leader for Chanticleer athletics. He previous college coaching stops, prior to his time as TD Ameritrade's CEO, include Dartmouth and Lafayette, in addition to 10 years coaching high school football.
