Marquis Young Lauded by MAC

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts freshman running back Marquis Young is the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
Young rushed for 240 yards on 35 carries and three touchdowns – all single-game career numbers – in UMass’ 31-26 win at Buffalo on Friday. His performance marked the most rushing yards by a Minuteman since Kevin Quinlan’s 241 on Oct. 7, 2000 (Northeastern) and 10th most in UMass single-game history. Young is UMass' first 200+ yards rusher since Tony Nelson's 204 yards at Hofstra on Nov. 22, 2008
The Rochester, N.Y. native finished his inaugural season with 960 yards on 152 carries, good for a 6.3 yards per carry average. He recorded the most rushing yards for a true freshman running back at UMass since Steve Baylark’s 1,177 yards on 268 carries (4.4 per run) in 2003.
