Yrazusta Moves on to Round of 16 At ITA Regionals

HANOVER, N.H. - After picking up a pair of wins on Saturday, sophomore Ana Yrazusta advanced to the ITA Northeast Regionals Round of 16 play which will take place Sunday morning at Dartmouth's Boss Tennis Center. The Spaniard won her Round of 64 and Round of 32 matches to advance and will also play in the Round of 16 doubles with teammate Carol Benito.
In her opening match of the day, Yrazusta defeated Kristina Mathis of Dartmouth in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). A rough start in the Round of 32 saw the native of Las Palmas, Spain, drop her first set 6-3 to Madeleine Hamilton of Yale before bouncing back to win the next two sets 6-0 and 6-3.
Freshman Ruth Crawford earned a singles win in the Round of 128 to start the day defeating Nadia Smergut of Stony Brook (7-5, 4-6, 6-4), but the Atlanta native fell in the Round of 64 to Katya Vasilev of Boston College in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
Junior Anna Woosley had also received a bye to the Round of 64 alongside Yrazusta, but the West Sussex, England, native fell to Valeria Salazar of Syracuse, 6-3 and 6-4.
On Sunday, Yrazusta will return to the courts to face Anna Shkudun of Syracuse on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Round of 16. That match will be preceded by her doubles match alongside Carol Benito in the Round of 16 as they face Kana Daniel and Sonya Latycheva of Penn Sunday at 10 a.m.
