AMHERST, Mass. - Cady Lalanne had 18 points with seven rebounds and Trey Davis added 15 points and four assists to lead Massachusetts to a 66-64 win over Dayton at the Mullins Center Thursday night.

UMass (11-9, 4-3 Atlantic 10) went inside frequently against the Flyers, finishing with 44 points in the paint, including a season-high tying six dunks. That aided in a 46 percent shooting effort as well.

The Minutemen also outrebounded the Flyers 37-33 - their fifth-consecutive game to control the glass.

Maxie Esho was perfect on four shots to finish with eight points and nine boards. Donte Clark led all players with nine assists and three steals - both career-highs for the freshman.

Dayton (16-4, 6-2) shot 44 percent from the floor but was just 7-of-14 at the foul line. The Flyers also lost for just the second time this season - in 17 games - when yielding less than 70 points.

Jordan Sibert led UD with 19 points and Kendall Pollard had 12.

UMass held leads at 14-7 and 24-18 but couldn't keep UD at bay. The Flyers tied it at 24-24 with six-consecutive points, capped by a Kendall Pollard driving layup down the lane in transition.

The Minutemen then went on a 10-2 run to grab their largest lead of the half, 36-24. All five baskets came in the paint from Lalanne, Esho and Tyler Bergantino.

UD came back though and closed the period on an 8-2 run as Sibert beat the clock with a 3-ball from the left wing.

UMass shot 49 percent in the half and made four of its first five from outside before finishing 4-of-9.

Bergantino put the exclamation point on a 10-1 run that erased the Flyers' first lead of the game with a running slam, giving UMass a 52-45 lead with 12:15 to play.

The Minutemen extended their lead to nine on two occasions, with the last coming on a Davis layup with 6:22 left.

UD chipped away at the UMass lead, eventually cutting it to 66-64 on a Darrell Davis banked 3-pointer with three seconds left.

Clark went to the free throw line and missed the front-end of the 1-and-1 but Jabarie Hinds saved any potential UD heroics when he blocked Pollard's 55-foot shot at the buzzer.

UMass will have a quick turnaround for its next game, flying to St. Louis Friday morning to prepare for a Saturday afternoon contest at Saint Louis (9-11, 1-6). The game will begin at 3 p.m. Central time and be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
