The Massachusetts-Lock Haven Scouting Report
UMass field hockey has met Lock Haven on five occasions and claimed victory in each. Most recently, the Minutewomen defeated the Lady Eagles on the road, 4-2 on Nov. 1, 2013 to seal their placement as the No. 1 seed in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship.
Lock Haven started the 2014 season strong after the graduation of only one player from the 2013 roster and own a 7-3 overall record through 10 contests as a result. The Lady Eagles started the season with a 2-1 setback to Providence in overtime, but rebounded with a six-game winning streak that included decisions over Colgate, Georgetown, Saint Louis, Siena, Towson and Vermont. However, No. 7 Penn State halted Lock Haven's stretch of success when the Nittany Lions downed the Lady Eagles, 5-1 on Sept. 23. Lock Haven responded with a 2-1 victory over La Salle but dropped its most recent contest, 2-1 to Sacred Heart.
Pat Rudy is in her 19th season leading the Lady Eagles and 37 th year coaching collegiate field hockey in all. Last season, she led the squad to an appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal round as the side finished 14-7 overall and 4-3 during A-10 play.
Lydia George and Nakira Downes each own 14 points as the duo combines for 10 of the Lady Eagles' 30 goals and eight of their 14 assists. Rachel Valentine (11) and Taylor Kennedy (10) have also eclipsed double-digits in points through 10 games of the season.

The Massachusetts-Saint Francis (Pa.) Scouting Report
Saint Francis (Pa.) field hockey opened its season with eight consecutive victories through as many games played. A high-scoring bunch with defensive lockdown abilities, the Red Flash average 5.13 goals per game with only 0.88 allowed entering competition against the Minutewomen.
Autumn Pellman leads the squad with 31 points on 15 goals and one assist while Carissa Makea adds 20 points through eight goals and four helpers. Three additional Red Flash eclipsed double-digits point through eight games of the season in Selena Adamshick (18), Nikki Snyder (15) and Mackenzie Wirth (11).
Stacey Bean is in her seventh season guiding Saint Francis (Pa.) field hockey. She owns a 43-73 record with the Red Flash and 124-135 career record spanning 17 seasons as a head coach.
Bean has only faced the Minutewomen once with the Red Flash, during Saint Francis' inaugural season as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2013. In the only meeting between the teams, UMass overcame a two-goal deficit in the second half to force overtime and earn a 4-3 win. Izzie Delario scored to put UMass up, 1-0, a lead that held into halftime. However, the Red Flash answered with three consecutive goals in less than seven minutes to put the Minutewomen in a 3-1 hole with less than 25 minutes to play. UMass responded with back-to-back goals from Brooke Sabia and Lindsay Bowman at the 57:54 and 61:44 marks, respectively, to send the game into extra time. Delario capped in nine minutes, 35 seconds into the OT frame with a breakaway goal from the right side to give UMass an undefeated A-10 regular season.
UMass Field Hockey Enters 40th Season
The 2014 season marks the 40th of competition in the history of UMass field hockey. Massachusetts played its first contest on Sept. 30, 1975, when it defeated Keene State, 5-1 en route to an 8-4-3 record on the season.
UMass is the most successful program in the history of the Atlantic 10 Conference, which began its sponsorship of field hockey in 1998, as the Minutewomen own 14 A-10 Tournament Titles and 116 victories over league foes. Massachusetts has made the NCAA Tournament on 24 occasions as well and advanced to the Final Four during four of those appearances.
Cockrum Gets First Multi-Goal Game
Sophomore Hailey Cockrum sparked the Minutewomen to a 4-1 win over VCU on Sunday with her first collegiate multi-goal game. Cockrum scored unassisted to give the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. She added her second goal in the 61st minute off an endline pass from Tory Berry to push UMass' lead to 3-1. Her five points through 10 appearance as a sophomore outpaces her production as a freshman, when she totaled four points over 18 games played.

Three-Goal Response Earns UMass 4-1 Victory At VCU

Hailey Cockrum earned a pair of goals to pace the attack while Nicole Miller and Brooke Sabia added one apiece.
Cockrum struck in the 17th minute but Krystal Mayers responded for VCU at the 42:04 mark to even play at 1-1. Brooke Sabia put the Minutewomen back in front with a penalty corner strike 10 minutes, 40 seconds later before Cockrum added her second of the day in the 61st minute. Miller sealed it at 64:50 with a tip-try from the post.
Minutewomen Fall To California, 2-1; Retain Kennedy Cup with 3-1 Win At UMass-Lowell
Massachusetts hosted West Coast foe California for a rare meeting between the sides on Friday, Sept. 12. The Golden Bears were able to squeak out a 2-1 win over the Minutewomen despite UMass freshman midfielder Sarah Hawkshaw's first career goal. Hawkshaw was unassisted as she worked into the circle with possession during the 44th minute of play and struck a rising shot into the left side of the goal near the post. California rallied in the 48th minute when Andrea Earle tipped in a Monica Marrazzo attempt to create the eventual final score.
However, the Minutewomen rebounded two days later and cut down UMass-Lowell, 3-1 on the road at the Cushing Field Complex in Lowell, Mass. Massachusetts employed a balanced attack with a goal each from Lauren Allymohamed, Hawkshaw and Brooke Sabia to secure the win. Allymohamed scored in the 12th minute and Sabia followed at 30:05 to give UMass a 2-0 win. The River Hawks scored with 48 seconds left in the first half, but Hawkshaw iced the game in the 45th minute with another unassisted tally.
UMass Splits Second Weekend With Win Over Maine, Loss At BC
The Minutewomen tallied their first win of the season, 3-2, on the strength of an overtime game-winner from freshman Melanie Kreusch and another multi-goal performance from Brooke Sabia as UMass dispatched Maine on Friday, Sept. 5. Kreusch scored on a diving goal three minutes and 49 seconds into the extra period following a pass from classmate Sarah Hawkshaw. It marked the first points of Kreusch and Hawkshaw's careers, respectively.
However, Massachusetts was stymied, 2-0 when it visited No. 13 Boston College to close the weekend slate on Sunday, Sept. 7. Junior goalkeeper Sam Carlino made nine saves during the game, but the Minutewomen were unable to generate goals at the opposite end of the field. Boston College (3-1 overall) built a two-goal lead during the first half on the strength of goals from Leah Frome and Emily McCoy. UMass was outshot by Boston College, 24-8 during the game while the home side also tallied a 7-4 lead in penalty corners taken.
