• Today's game captains for UMass were QB Blake Frohnapfel and LB Stanley Andre
• UMass won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
• The Minutemen wore maroon pants, white jersey's and white helmets in the game.
• Stanley Andre made his team-best 28th career start - all 28 starts have been consecutive.
• Randall Jette is second on the team making his 27th consecutive and career start.
• J.T. Blyden made his first career start at running back; He has now played in three games as a true freshman.
• Blake Frohnapfel hit Tajae Sharpe for a 77-yard touchdown pass-and-catch to start the 4th quarter. It was the second-time this year that the two have connected on a 77-yard touchdown play.
• Frohnapfel finished 17-of-33 for 233 yards and a TD. He was sacked three times.
• Marken Michel caught six passes for a career-high 104 yards, with a long of 41 yards midway through the 4th quarter. The six catches tied his career high.
• Tajae Sharpe also set a career-high with 99 yards receiving on just four receptions, including the 77-yarder at the start of the 4th. That was his second score this season and sixth of his career. He now has 1,231 receiving yards on 100 receptions in his three season at UMass.
• UMass graduate student and former Penn State wide receiver Alex Kenney had the first offensive play of the game for the Minutemen - an 18-yard run. That was his longest play so far as a Minuteman.
• Three Minutemen had sacks in the game. Stanley Andre had a solo sack (the second solo of his career), while Kassan Messiah and Sha-Ki Holines combined for a shared sack.
• UMass trailed 34-0 at halftime which was its largest deficit at intermission this year.
• UMass allowed four touchdowns in the 2nd quarter which were the most this season.
• After going 13-of-32 (41%) on third down conversions in the previous two games, UMass was 3-of-13 at Penn State.
• UMass defense allowed 464 offensive yards for the game (315 yards on 42 plays in the first half). In the previouw two games, UMass had allowed 474 yards (Colorado) and 310 yards (Vanderbilt).
• Penn State rushed for a season-high 228 yards surpassing the previous high of 106 vs. Akron.
• UMass' offense accounted for 266 yards on 61 plays. Over the previous two games, the Minutemen had 372 yards against Colorado and 346 yards against Vanderbilt.
• UMass is 0-4 over the last three years against the Big Ten after today. UMass lost last year at Wisconsin (45-0), in 2012 against Indiana (45-6), and in 2012 at Michigan (63-13).
