AMHERST, Mass. - Ten current and former members of the University of Massachusetts field hockey program were selected to compete at the United States Women's National and Under-21 Championships, as announced by Team USA.
Program alumni Hannah Prince, Alexa Sikalis and Kim Young along with current Minutewomen in Sam Carlino, Hailey Cockrum, Izzie Delario, Brooke Sabia and Renee Suter will compete in the 2014 Women's National Championship while rising-sophomores Nicole Miller and Shauna Rankin-Byrne will appear in the U-21 Championship.
Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa., will serve as the host of the 2014 Women's National Championship from June 16-21 ahead of the U-21 Championship, which will run from June 22-25.
Current UMass head coach Carla Tagliente and assistant coach Roz Ellis will help direct the New England Region High Performance Team. Program alums Pam Bustin and Ainslee Lamb and former head coach of the Minutewomen Justine Sowry are also involved in the Women's National Championship as coaches.
The Women's National Championship serves as the selection trials for the U.S. Women's National Squad. The second annual U-21 Championship will feature the top 72 field hockey athletes under the age of 21 from across the country. Athletes will be playing for a spot at the 2014 Junior National Camp in the hopes to be selected to one of the 2014-2015 Junior National Teams.
