 Weekly Game Notes - UMass Returns To Western Mass For Annual Springfield Game

 UMass returns to Western Mass to face Florida Gulf Coast in the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase today at 2 p.m. at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. The Minutemen have dropped their last two, while the Eagles are flying high at 7-1.
 The UMass Sports Network will feature the "Voice of the Minutemen" Josh Maurer handling play-by-play duties alongside analyst Tim Collins. The game can be heard live starting at 6:40 PM (ET) on 105.5 FM WEEI (Springfield), 440 AM WVEI (Worcester), 1200 AM WXKS Bloomberg Radio in Boston and on 95.5 FM WATD in Boston's South Shore. The broadcast is also available online through www.UMassAthletics.com and on smart phones and tablets through the TuneIn app.
 The game will not be televised but is available online via the A-10 Digital Network.

 This is the 106th season of UMass Basketball. UMass has an all-time record of 1,235-1,082 (.537) in 2,311 games. UMass is 458-314 (.593) in conference games, including a 294-294 in Atlantic 10 play. The Minutemen have claimed 15 regular-season conference championships and five tournament titles.
 UMass plays host to Florida Gulf Coast in the firstever meeting between the schools and the first for the Minutemen against a current member of the Atlantic Sun Conference since a 1974 NIT game against Jacksonville at Madison Square Garden.
 The Minutemen rank 51st nationally in scoring (76.9), 1st in free throws made (161) and attempted (221), 70th in FT pct. (72.9%), 64th in steals per game (8.3) and 80th in blocks per game (4.6).
 UMass is 5-1 when scoring 70 points or more.
 UMass is 45-24 all-time at the MassMutual Center and 20-4 since 1990. The Minutemen are 7-1 in six previous seasons under Springfield native Derek Kellogg and have won six-straight.
 The Minutemen are 15-4 (.789) in the month of December over the past three seasons (5-1 each year) and 25-14 (.641) in Derek Kellogg's previous six years. UMass has won its last five December road games.
 UMass entered the year having won 70 games in the last 3 years (25, 21 & 24) and participated in 2 NITs (reaching Final Four in 2012) and 2014 NCAA tourney.
 The Minutemen return seven letterwinners, including starters Maxie Esho and Cady Lalanne, from last season that went 24-9 overall and 10-6 in Atlantic 10 play en route to it's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 16 years (1998). The team also returned to the national rankings for the first time since 1998- 99, climbing as high as No. 12 in late January..

SERIES HISTORY WITH FGCU & THE A-SUN
 UMass and Florida Gulf Coast are meeting for the first time in men's basketball on Sunday.
 The Minutemen are 0-1 against current members of the Atlantic Sun, falling to Jacksonville 73-69 in overtime in the 1974 NIT at Madison Square Garden.
 UMass is facing a school from the State of Florida for the eighth time in in Derek Kellogg's seven seasons, going 1-6. The lone victory came two weeks ago against Florida State.
