Bears Too Much For Minutemen In The Pool

AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts men's swimming & diving team posted 21 season-best performances on Saturday in a dual meet with Brown at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool inside Boyden Gymnasium.
A total of eight individuals posted the fastest time in a particular event, including in both sprint freestyle and both backstroke events.
Freshman Oliver Wyeth turned in a very solid meet, touching first in the 100 Backstroke in 50.12 and 200 Backstroke in 1:51.58 with the fastest times in the Atlantic 10 this season in each event.
Junior distance standout Alessandro Bomprezzi won the 1000 Freestyle in a season-best 9:30.95 - good for second-fastest in the A-10 this season. He also remained perfect on the year in the 500 Free while touching second in the 200 Free.
Seniors Michael Glenn and Ryan Bobianski each shaved a couple tenths off their top times in the 100 Breaststroke, while Glenn's 1:56.70 in the 200 Individual medley was a season-best and the sixth-fastest in the league thus far.
Senior Hao Luong touched second in the 200 Backstroke in 1:52.11 and third in the 200 Butterfly in 1:56.33. He too established season-best times in each event.
In the sprint Freestyles, junior Wiktor Karpinski sliced a half second off his top time in the 100 Free for a silver in 47.02, while freshman Owen Wright recorded a pair of top-three finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyles.
In the diving competition, freshman Trent Kindvall opened the meet with a third-place score in the 1-meter before grabbing the top spot in the 3-meter later in the dual.
For Brown, the 173-125 win over UMass included a pool record from Riley Springman in the 200 Fly in 1:50.76.
After four-consecutive weekends of competition, UMass will have next weekend off before closing out the first half of the 2014-15 season at the Terrier Invitational, Nov. 21-23.
