| Weekly Game Notes - UMass Closes Out Season On Black Friday Vs. Buffalo |
|
|
• UMass hosts the University at Buffalo on Black Friday (1 PM, ESPN3) in what will be the Minutemen's last game of the 2014 season. UMass will be going for its third straight home win of the year and has a shot to finish second in the MAC East division. The game will also be Senior Day for the Minutemen who will honor their senior class prior to kickoff on Friday.
• The UMass Sports Network will feature Voice of the Minutemen Josh Maurer handling play-by-play duties alongside analyst Matt Goldstein, and sideline reporter Adam Giardino. The game can be heard live starting at 12:40 AM (ET) on 105.5 FM WEEI (Springfield), 1440 AM WVEI (Worcester), and 1200 AM WXKS (Boston/Manchester/Providence). The broadcast is also available online through www.UMassAthletics.com and on smart phones and tablets through the TuneIn app.
• The game will be produced by ESPN3 and streamed online via www.WatchESPN.com or on mobile devices via the WatchESPN App. John Brickley will call the play-by-play action, while Ken Dunek will provide color commentary.
• Despite dropping their last game to Akron 30-6, the Minutemen took away positives from their last road game of the season. Jovan Santos-Knox had a career-high 19 tackles -- 11 solo and 8 assisted. He also forced two fumbles and recorded 1.5 tackles for losses.
• The tandem of Blake Frohnapfel and Tajae Sharpe have begun to catch the attention of the MAC and the NCAA. Sharpe was named to the Biletnikoff Watch List after his breakout start to the season. Frohnapfel ranks 3rd in the NCAA for passing yards this year (3,345), while Sharpe also ranks 4th for receiving yards (1,245).
• Blake Frohnapfel missed the Akron game due to a leg injury that he triggered in UMass' win against Ball State. In his place, Austin Whipple started for the Minutemen and completed 12-of-20 passes for 157 yards, connecting with Jean Sifrin on a one-yard touchdown pass for the team's lone score.
• UMass was one of two teams in the country (Louisiana Monroe) to play four non-conference games against teams from the Power Five conferences (ACC, PAC-12, SEC, Big Ten).
