Sifrin Selected As John Mackey Award Semifinalist

John Mackey Award Semifinalists Release
NEW YORK - University of Massachusetts football junior Jean Sifrin was one of eight tight ends from around NCAA Division I FBS chosen as a John Mackey Award Semifinalist on Monday. Given annually to the most out standing collegiate tight end, the 2014 John Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 10, 2014 and presented live on December 11, 2014 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. on ESPNU.The eight semi-finalists were determined by confide ntial balloting of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2014 Mackey finalists will be announced on November 24, 2014.
The seven additional semifinalists include E.J. Bibbs (Iowa State), Evan Engram (Mississippi), Ben Koyack (Notre Dame), Jimmay Mundine (Kansas), Nick O'Leary (Florida State), Clive Walford (Miami) and Maxx Williams (Minnesota).
Sifrin has 598 receiving yards over 38 receptions with five touchdowns during nine games with the Minutemen in 2014. The Miami, Florida, native provided 539 of those yards and three touchdowns during league competition to help the Minutemen to three victories over Mid-American Conference team.
Sifrin was added to the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List on Oct. 13. The junior tight end also took home Phil Steele Midseason All-MAC and was picked as the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Tight End of the Week (Oct. 27). The John Mackey Award Committee previously recognized Sifrin as an honorable mention tight end of the week on Oct. 1.
