Sifirn Chosen As John Mackey Tight End Of The Week

John Mackey Tight End of the Week Release
NEW YORK - University of Massachusetts football junior Jean Sifrin was announced as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week on Wednesday morning. Sifrin totaled 185 yards receiving, the most by a tight end in Division I FBS this season, and a touchdown over six receptions at MAC West Division-leading Toledo on Saturday, Oct. 25.Sifrin's earned his touchdown on a 76-yard catch-and-run play during the fourth quarter as the Minutemen tied the contest, 35-35 with five minutes, 57 seconds remaining in the game. His five additional receptions moved the chains, with four of those grabs coming on third downs.
Sifrin has 33 receptions covering 544 yards with five touchdowns through eight games played as a Minuteman. During Mid-American Conference play, Sifrin owns 485 receiving yards on 27 catches with a trio of touchdown grabs. He was previously added to the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List on Oct. 13 and picked up Phil Steele Midseason All-MAC First Team on Oct. 18.
The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by Tight Ends during the active season. Honorable mentions for this week's John Mackey Tight End of the Week include Pharaoh Brown of Oregon, Billy Freeman of San Jose State and Jeff Heuerman of Ohio State.
