UMass Athletic Department Announces Fall Scholar-Athlete Award Recipients

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's soccer junior Josh Schwartz and field hockey senior Alexa Sikalis were announced as the UMass Fall Scholar-Athletes Award recipients at the weekly sports luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. Schwartz is majoring in biology and Sikalis is preparing to graduate with a degree in kinesiology.
Schwartz led the Minutemen with 16 points on six goals, including a game-winner, and four assists recorded over the 19-game fall season. The Annapolis, Md., native was recognized for his success in the classroom as a Capital One Academic All-American and Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honoree this year.
Sikalis tallied the second-most assists in Division I field hockey with 20 as a senior during the 2013 season. She also provided a pair of goals for 24 points on the year and was named NFHCA Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region in addition to being selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team.
