Amherst, Mass. - UMass football's Devin Brown was named to the Capital One Academic All-District I football team as announced by the College Sports Information Director's Association on Thursday afternoon. Brown, a native of Piedmont, Calif., is now eligible to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors at the conclusion of the season.

The Minutemen's starting safety on defense, Brown is a psychology major with a 3.77 grade point average. He ranks second on the team in total tackles with a career-best 74 for the year in nine starts. He is also tied for the team lead with two interceptions and has one tackle for loss.

This is Brown's first season as a starter for UMass after playing primarily on special teams and as a reserve cornerback in 2012. He has three double-figure tackle games and his interception against Miami (Ohio) helped seal the win for the Minutemen.

The senior is a Dean's List student and a member of the University's Commonwealth Honor College. He is the first Academic All-District selection for UMass since Anthony Nelson in 2010.
