AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team landed 10 student-athletes on the Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league announced recently. The Minutemen were among the list of 100 individuals who achieved grade point averages of 3.0 or higher in each of the two academic periods during the 2011-12 hockey season.

Sophomore defenseman Conor Allen and sophmore goaltender Jeff Teglia were both second time honorees with Teglia earning a spot on the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team holding the top GPA at his position, 3.88.

In addition to Allen and Teglia, eight more Minutemen received all-academic recognition for the first time in their careers: freshman Emerson Auvenshine, junior Kevin Czepiel, sophomore Peter DeAngelo, sophomore Branden Gracel, sophomore Joel Hanley, freshman Steve Mastalerz, sophomore Michael Pereira and freshman Oleg Yevenko.

Providence senior forward Andy Balysky, Merrimack senior forward Ryan Flanigan and Northeastern senior forward Mike McLaughlin shared the distinction as Hockey East Top-Scholar Athletes, as the trio earned perfect 4.0 GPA's for the season.
