AMHERST, Mass. - UMass freshman goaltender Kevin Boyle has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It marks the second time this season Boyle has earned the honor and the second straight week a Minuteman has garnered the award after fellow netminder Steve Mastalerz was recognized last week.

Boyle stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in UMass' 5-1 victory over Merrimack on Friday night at the Mullins Center. The win, which was Boyle's team-leading eighth of the season, helped the Mass Attack secure a berth into the Hockey East Tournament and snapped a streak of six straight setbacks to the Warriors.

Heading into the postseason, Boyle is currently 8-6-4 on the season with a 3.05 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage.

The Minutemen open postseason play at No. 1 Boston College on Friday night, Mar. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
