Nov. 10, 2012
• Pregame Captains: Rob Blanchflower (Offense), Perry McIntyre (Defense), Tim Brandt (Special Teams)
• UMass won the opening coin toss and deferred until the second half - that marked the sixth game this year that UMass has won the coin toss.
• With Stephan Milhim starting at right guard and Nick Speller starting at left tackle, UMass used its seventh different offensive line combination of the year.
• Joe Colton recorded his first career blocked punt; it was also the first for the team since Jesse Julmiste blocked one against Maine on Nov. 12, 2011.
• Khary Bailey-Smith recovered the blocked punt by Joe Colton giving him fumble recoveries in the Vanderbilt and Northern Illinois games and a blocked punt return today.
• Bailey-Smith also had an interception late in the second quarter. Bailey-Smith and Darren Thellen are the only Minutemen to have multiple interceptions for the year. Of UMass' 10 interceptions, they have come by eight different players.
• Randall Jette's first career interception in the end zone prevents Akron scoring drive from the UMass 24 yard line at the start of the second quarter.
• Ed Saint-Vil also posted his first career interception in the second quarter. Saint-Vil returned to action last week after missing the previous seven games due to injury.
• Blake Lucas scored a career-high three field goals on the day. That also marked a season-high for the team. Lucas hit from 23 yards, 26 yards, and 35 yards.
• Mike Wegzyn threw for 266 yards against Akron - his second highest total of the season.
• Colter Johnson had a strong game with a 44.8 punt average and 3 punts downed inside the 10-yard line.
