• UMass and Vanderbilt meet for the first time in program history for both teams. The game was the first in a four-game set spanning through 2018: at Gillette Stadium (2013), at Vanderbilt (2014), at Gillette (2018).
• UMass wore white pants, white jersey's and black helmets - the same uniform combination used in the Michigan game.
• Quinton Sales, Colter Johnson and Stanley Andre served as game captains.
• UMass won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.
• True freshman quarterback A.J Doyle completed his first touchdown pass of his collegiate career on a 10-yard pass to Deion Walker.
• Freshman linebacker Kassan Messiah led the defense with a total of nine tackles, four unassisted and five assisted on the night.
• Each team had 6 penalties in the first quarter. UMass was penalized for 38 yards; Vanderbilt for 50 yards.
• Mike Wegzyn hit Michael Cox for a 41-yard pass in the second quarter marking the 3rd longest pass play of the season for UMass and the longest pass reception in Cox's career.
• The 28 points allowed in the third quarter were the most since giving up the same in the second quarter at Michigan.
• Vanderbilt's Jonathan Krause's punt return for a touchdown was the first special team's score allowed by UMass this season.
• Brian Kimbrow's 74-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was the longest allowed by UMass this season and the first 70-yard run given up since 2006 (Chad Kackert, UNH, 87 yards).
• Rob Blanchflower had a nine-yard catch in the third quarter - his first since the Ohio game after missing two games with injury.
• Joe Colton forced his first career fumble which was recovered by Khary Bailey-Smith. Bailey-Smith returned the fumble 72 yards to the Vanderbilt 19 yard line. That marked just the second fumble recovery for UMass this season.
• Daniel Maynes started at left defensive tackle for his first career start.
• Darren Thellen started his 36th career game.
