Podlofsky, Glasper Advance To Flight Finals At Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Jessica Podlofsky and Chanel Glasper advanced to the finals of their respective flights, highlighting a successful day two for UMass tennis at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational at Army on Saturday. Podlofsky (Flight B) and Glasper (Flight C) were two of five UMass players to advance to the semifinals of main draws.
Podlofsky, a sophomore, is a perfect 7-0 in singles play this fall season, while the freshman Glasper is now 6-1 in her collegiate career.
Sonia Bokhari advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A Singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Marisela Aviles of Providence, but fell in the semis, 6-1, 7-5, to No. 1 overall seed Nini Lagvilava of Stony Brook.
Flight B Singles No. 4 seed Podlofsky pulled out a tough 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 victory over UConn's Alexa Gregory in the Flight B quarterfinals and then won in straight sets over No. 2 seed Prerana Appineni of Stony Brook, 6-1, 6-4 to advance to Sunday's final.
On the other side of the Flight B draw, No. 1 seed Julia Comas advanced to the semifinals in the with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-0 victory over Irina Dementyeva of Fairleigh Dickinson, but then fell in the semis to St. Bonaventure's Marissa Brossard, 6-2, 6-4.
Glasper will play in Sunday's Flight C Singles final after victories over No. 3 seed Julie Leong of Fordham (5-7, 6-4, 10-5) and No. 1 seed Sarah Viebrock of Quinnipiac (6-1, 6-3).
On the other side of Flight C, Chantal Swszcz was forced to retire with an injury in the semifinals against Stony Brook's Polina Movchan, trailing 6-0, 3-0.
No. 2 seed Jocelyn Providence reached the semifinals in Flight D Singles, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over FDU's Manu Leme, before falling to No. 3 seed Chloe Pike, of Stony Brook, 6-1, 6-2.
Yuliana Motyl defeated Erin McCarthy of Marist, 8-3 in a consolation bracket match.
