WEST POINT, N.Y. - Six UMass women's tennis players won their first match on day one of the Eastern Collegiate Invitational on Friday at Army. Sonia Bokhari, Julia Comas, Jessica Podlofsky, Chanel Glasper, Chantal Swiszcz, and Jocelyn Providence all advanced with wins on Friday.

Bokhari, the No. 9 seed in Flight A, received a first round bye and then defeated Lehigh's Taylor Hampshire, 8-5 in the second round to set up a third round match with Providence's Marisela Aviles.

Yuliana Motyl, the No. 25 seed in Flight A, after a first round bye, dropped her second round match, 9-8 (3) to Sacred Heart's Gabi Kaldan.

In Flight B, both UMass players, Comas and Podlofsky, advanced. Comas, the No. 1 seed, after a first round bye, knocked off Marist's Joana Sun, 8-4, and Podlofsky, the No. 18 seed, beat Bowden's Kate Winingham, 8-2, after receiving a bye.

In Flight C, both Minutewomen advanced as well. No. 9 seed Chanel Glasper cruised by Army's Holly Pappafotis, 8-0 in the second round after a bye, and No. 4 seed Chantal Swiszcz knocked off Seton Hall's Elizabeth Verow, 8-6.

In Flight D, No. 2 seed Jocelyn Providence beat Marist's Sabrina Tahir, 8-3, and Bianca Drabek fell to Pitt's Taylor Washington, 6-1, 6-1.

Due to weather, many of Friday's singles matches across all four flights were played in pro-style matches (first two eight games, win by two) rather than best-of-three-set matches, which Saturday's matches are scheduled to be.
