Podlofsky Takes 'B' Title At Harvard Fall Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jessica Podlofsky defeated Atlantic 10 foe Jordan Batey of Temple in a spirited match to win the Flight B singles championship and highlight a successful opening weekend for the UMass women's tennis team at the Harvard Fall Classic. Judy Dixon's squad had three players in singles finals and one doubles team in action on Sunday.
Podlofsky finished off her perfect weekend with her fourth straight victory, taking the first set 6-4 before out-dueling Batey in the second set, 7-6, to win the Flight B title.
Podlofsky's weekend began with dropping her first set in the opening round to Temple's Rebecca Breland, but the sophomore responded, not losing a set the rest of the weekend on her way to four wins.
Chanel Glasper fell in the Flight C singles final on Sunday, but it was a highly successful first tournament in the Maroon & White for the freshman as she ran off three wins in a row to start the weekend, including a victory over A-10 opponent Carly Bohman of Temple.
After falling in her opening round match on Friday in Flight A singles, junior Julia Comas shook off the early season rust to win her next two matches and advance to the flight's consolation final, but fell on Sunday.
UMass' doubles team of Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz lost in Sunday's Flight A doubles final, 8-4. The pair ran off three straight wins over the first two days to advance to the finals.
