AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass Men's Soccer Team will play a pair of games this weekend starting off with tonight's game at Harvard followed by their home opener against Boston University on Sunday, September 18 at 1 p.m. and admission, as always, is free to all.
Last weekend the team brought home a 1-0 win in double overtime against New Hampshire. Senior Bryant Craft scored the lone goal with just 65 seconds left in the second overtime period. On Sunday, the Minutemen lost 1-0 at Vermont.
UMass' all time record against Harvard is 3-16-3 and has not seen a win against the Crimson since 1985. Last year UMass came up just shy of a win in their 3-2 loss.
The Minutemen will host Boston University on Sunday in their first home game of the season. Last year the teams ended in a 1-1 tie after two periods of overtime.
Few home fields yield such a distinct advantage as Rudd Field, aka FORT RUDD. At home UMass is 46-26-12 since the facility opened in 2002. All told, UMass has pitched 26 shutouts at home and has won nearly 70% of its Atlantic 10 matches in the friendly home confines. That home field advantage will be key, as the Minutemen will host eight home games this season.
