Tennis Announces 2011-12 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's tennis head coach Judy Dixon has announced the Minutewomen's 2011-12 schedule. UMass will host a total of eight home matches over the course of the year, four at the Mullins Courts on campus and four at the Bay Road Tennis Club. The season culminates with the Atlantic 10 Championships on April 20-22 in Charlottesville, Va.
The team will open the season on Sept. 16-18 at the Harvard Fall Classic in Cambridge, Mass. and then head to West Point, N.Y. on Sept. 23-25 for the Eastern Collegiate Invitational.
UMass returns home to host Providence on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. and then on Oct. 5 hosts Connecticut in a 2 p.m. match. Both will be held at the Mullins Courts.
The fall season concludes with a match at Fordham (Oct. 9) and the Big Green Invitational at Dartmouth on Nov. 4-6.
UMass will open the spring season indoors at the Bay Road Tennis Club on Jan. 28 with a match against Boston College before hitting the road for matches against Harvard, Columbia, Temple, Saint Joseph's, and Duquesne.
Then it is three out of the next four matches at home, all at the Bay Road Tennis Club. On Feb. 18, UMass hosts Army before travelling to Dartmouth on Feb. 29. Then its back to Amherst to face Rhode Island on March 3 and Long Island on March 4.
During spring break (March 16-23), the team will travel to Charleston, S.C. for a week of matches against Charleston Southern, Charlotte, and College of Charleston.
After returning north with matches at Fairfield and Sacred Heart, Dixon's squad will close out its home slate with a pair of matches at the Mullins Courts. On April 5, Boston University comes to town for a 2 p.m. match, and on April 10, UMass hosts Bryant in a 2 p.m. Senior Day match.
The regular season concludes with road matches at Albany and Quinnipiac before heading to Charlottesville, Va. on April 20-22 for the A-10 Championships.
Last season, the Minutewomen finished the year with a 15-9 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 at home. They won seven out of their last eight matches, including the final four of the regular season. UMass finished fifth at the 2010 A-10 Championships.
UMass returns a strong group including two All-Conference performers from a season ago in sophomore Yuliana Motyl and junior Julia Comas. Dixon also brings in five freshmen and one transfer to bolster the UMass ranks this season.
