AMHERST, Mass. - UMass alumnae April Kater and Amy Robertson recently completed a climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and proudly hoisted a UMass scarf when their group of seven reached the summit of the highest freestanding mountain in the world, 19,330 feet above sea level.

Kater and Robertson hit the summit of Kilimanjaro on Jan. 3, at 6:10 a.m. after a three-day long climb.

Kater, who was inducted into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002, was a three-time All-American in her career with the Minutewomen. She also was the recipient of the 1990 Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nation's top female collegiate soccer player.

Robertson was a two-sport All-American at UMass, playing both field hockey and lacrosse. She was a member of the United States Field Hockey squad from 1988-90 and later served as an assistant coach for the Minutewomen from 1992-96.

Robertson is currently the head field hockey coach at Indiana, while Kater is an assistant women's soccer coach at Colorado College.
