Consultative Committee Announced For UMass Football Coaching Search

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics John McCutcheon announced on Wednesday the consultative committee which will be involved with the hiring of the next head football coach. McCutcheon will oversee and chair the committee which is made of up representatives from the Athletic Department, the University, and former players. The committee is made up of McCutcheon, Todd Diacon, Juan Jarrett, Glenn Wong, John Kennedy, Jaime Seguin, Dan Markowski, Marcel Shipp and Brian McNally.
Diacon is the Deputy Chancellor for the University where he manages many of the large-scope projects involving long-range planning for the campus.
Jarrett is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources. He is responsible for the oversight of all Human Resource operations for the UMass Amherst Campus.
Wong is UMass' Faculty Athletic Representative and a professor in the Sport Management Program's Isenberg School of Management. Wong is one of the nation's most recognized experts in sports law and sports labor issues.
Kennedy is the President of the UMass Amherst Foundation and the Chairman of the Foundation's Athletics Committee as well as a member of the UMass Football 100-Yard Club. He is a two-time alum from both the UMass Lowell campus and the UMass Amherst Isenberg School Of Management.
Seguin is the Executive Associate Athletic Director/Associate Senior Women's Administrator for the Athletic Department. Seguin handles long-range fiscal planning and business operations.
Markowski is the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations and is a former player. He also serves as they day-to-day liaison with the football program. Markowski was a two-time All-Yankee Conference offensive lineman for UMass from 1993-96.
Shipp is one of the all-time great running backs in the history of UMass football and Division I-AA football. A two-time All-American, Shipp continues to hold the UMass record for career rushing yards (6,250), carries (1,215), and touchdowns (58). Shipp played nine seasons in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals from 2001-07 and with the Houston Texans in 2008.
McNally is also a former player and is a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual in Boston. He is an active member of the Board of Directors for the 100-Yard Club - the primary booster club of the football program. He was a three-year letterwinner from 1974-76 and served as team captain as a senior.
The 2012 season will bring forth a new era in UMass football history as the Minutemen become members of the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Mid-American Conference. Concurrent with the move will be a change in venue as well with UMass playing home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
In April 2011, it was announced that UMass would be making the transition from the Football Championship Subdivision level to the FBS level as a football-only member of the MAC. The Minutemen will be eligible for the MAC Championship and bowl participation in 2013.
The 2012 season will be the 130th for the UMass football program. UMass had been a FCS member since 1978 when the division was first formed. In that time span, UMass won 22 conference championships, made eight (8) NCAA Tournament appearances winning the 1998 National Championship Title and played in the NCAA Championship game three times (1978, 1998, and 2006). UMass was a member of the Yankee Conference, the Atlantic 10 and most recently the Colonial Athletic Association.
