McCutcheon Named A-10 Executive Committee Chair

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Atlantic 10 directors of athletics, men's and women's head basketball coaches and conference staff concluded four days of meetings at The Kingsmill Resort & Spa in Williamsburg, Va.
Among the highlights were the format for the 2011 A-10 Men's Basketball Championship was reconfirmed; the 2010 regular season men's basketball conference schedule was approved; league officials discussed conference and NCAA legislation as well as potential conference realignment pertaining to both the A-10 and national Division I conferences. The directors also reaffirmed the continued development of an Atlantic 10 strategic initiative plan focusing on the five core areas of importance in the mission of the Atlantic 10 Conference. All Olympic sport championship sites for the 2010-11 season were approved, along with a final review of the league's postgraduate scholarship nominations.
In addition, George Washington director of athletics Jack Kvancz was honored for his service as chair of the league's executive committee for the past two years, while Massachusetts' athletic director John McCutcheon was named chair for 2010-11 and 2011-12.
"The meetings were very productive and a healthy exchange of meaningful ideas and viewpoints," says A-10 commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade.
"I look forward to working with John McCutcheon, our new chair of the executive committee, and thank Jack Kvancz for his outstanding leadership and work over the past two years."
After seeing an increase in the revenue and dramatic rise in attendance at the 2010 Men's Basketball Championship, the format for the 2011 Championship (Mar. 8-13) will remain the same. The top 12 teams at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the 2011 Championship, with the top four seeds earning byes. First round contests will be played on the campuses of teams seeded fifth-thru-eighth. The setting for the Championship then shifts to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
The finals of the 35th annual Men's Basketball Championship will be held on Sunday, Mar. 13, and televised live at 1:00pm on network CBS for the second consecutive year. Fans can reserve all-session tickets for the 2011 Championship by calling Boardwalk Hall at (609) 348-7021.
