Day Two Action Complete At IC4A/ECAC Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Minutemen and Minutewomen track and field teams were in action on Saturday for the second of a three day championship event. At the IC4A's, the men's team stands ninth in a field of 33, scoring a total of 11 points over two days. At the ECAC's, the women have tallied four points to currently stand in 29th among a field of 35. Both the men and women had a number of competitors in action on day two in Princeton, N.J.
Proving for a strong presence on Saturday for the men were Tyler Cotto, Daniel Wu, and Sean Busch. The senior, Cotto, placed seventh in his heat and 21st overall in the preliminaries of the 110 meter hurdles by crossing the line at 14.82. The finals of the 110 hurdles will commence on Sunday. Daniel Wu competed in the men's long jump, as he placed 29th overall, but fifth in his flight with a distance of 21-11.50.
On the women's side Lisa Wilson was back in action for a second consecutive day along with Nicole Pompei, Rachelle Bourque, and a 4x800 meter relay team. Wilson and Bourque, the senior and freshman duo, were just mere distances away from scoring points for the Minutewomen. For Wilson, the senior posted a mark of 171-03 in the hammer throw, taking 11th overall. The freshman, Bourque, placed tenth in the javelin throw with a distance of 127-04. The top eight finishers score points for their respective teams at the ECAC Championships.
Impressive as a quad for UMass were Deanna Julian, Elizabeth Fisk, Gina Perno, and Courtney Baldwin. The team placed sixth in the heat and 12th overall in the preliminaries of the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:04.30, the second-fastest in program history. Pompei competed in the pole vault, as she reached a height of 11-11.75, good enough for sixth place. The mark was a new season best, improving upon her third all-time mark in the UMass record book.
The men and women will conclude their respective championships meets, on Sunday as the final day of competition is set to kick off at 10 am.
