Minutewomen Win Fourth-Straight; Beat Pioneers, 7-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The UMass women's tennis team extended their winning streak to four-straight matches on Thursday, as they went on the road to beat the Pioneers of Sacred Heart, 7-0. The four-straight wins ties a season-best for the Minutewomen, who pushed their overall record to 11-6. The winning streak has also included wins over Presbyterian, NJIT and Hofstra.
The Minutewomen played another clean match, with solid performances at all singles positions and another sweep of doubles play. Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse kept their hot streak going at first doubles, beating Darcy Demers and Julianne Kasino, 8-5. Tanisha Hodgson and Julia Comas put up their third-straight doubles victory as well, winning 8-1 over Elizabeth Harrington and Kristina Chao, while Katilyn Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence improved to 4-0 as a team with an 8-0 shutout of Kate Donnelly and Delaney Downing.
Comas, coming of an A-10 Rookie of the Week performance last week, continued to show her prowess at first singles, knocking-off Donnelly in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-1. Boney also won her fourth-straight singles match, topping Demers in a third-set tiebreak, 6-3, 6-7, 10-7. Hodgson, who has stepped-up in the number three singles spot, improved to 3-2 on the year with a, 6-3, 6-3, victory over Harrington.
Lecluyse, Carpenter and Providence rounded out the victories for the Minutewomen. Providence is now 8-5 in the sixth singles spot, including wins in each of her last four matches.
The Minutewomen will host Albany on Friday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
