MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The UMass women's tennis team won their second-straight match on Saturday, finishing up a six-match road stint with a, 6-1, victory over the Highlanders of NJIT. The win improved the Minutewomen record to 9-6 for the season, as they return home on Sunday for the first time in over a month to play Hofstra at the Mullins Courts.
Senior captain Maude Lecluyse and junior Candynce Boney set the tone for the Minutewomen in doubles play, defeating Nina Mayevska and Isha Toor, 8-1, at first doubles. UMass would go on to claim the doubles point, as Jocelyn Providence and Kaitlyn Carpenters won third doubles by default as NJIT only had five players.
Freshman Julia Comas improved her record to 2-2 at first singles, winning a hard-fought match over Mayevska in a third-set tiebreak, 6-7, 6-2, 10-6. It was the second-straight win for Comas at the number one spot. Boney also continued to impress at number two singles, adding on to her 2-1 record last week with a, 6-0, 6-4 win over Ana Lidon. Lecluyse and Providence would also coast to victories at fourth and fifth singles respectively, while Carpenter took away a forfeit victory.
UMass returns home to play their first outdoor match of the spring season on Sunday, as they host the Pride of Hofstra University at the Mullins Courts at 1 p.m.
