Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - Second half goals by Nicole Cordero and Makaela Potts erased a one-goal deficit and gave UMass field hockey (8-6, 2-0 A-10) a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven (10-5, 1-1 A-10) on Friday afternoon at Garber Field. The Minutewomen move atop the Atlantic 10 standings at 2-0 heading into Sunday's game at defending conference champion Richmond.

Alesha Widdall made three saves in goal to get the victory as the Minutewomen held the edge in shots, 13-9, and in penalty corners, 8-2.

Potts broke the 1-1 tie with 16:40 left when she took a pass from Nikki Panciocco off a penalty corner and sent a shot inside the left post for the senior's fifth of the season and the fourth in the last three games. The assist was Panciocco's fourth of the year.

The Minutewomen controlled the game the rest of the way, winning the last seven penalty corners of the contest and keeping the ball in the Lock Haven zone.

UMass tied the game, 1-1, with 27:06 left in the second half on Cordero's second goal of the season. Katie Kelly dribbled through two defenders into the left side of the circle and crossed a pass to the sophomore forward on the far post for the goal.

Lock Haven broke the scoreless tie with 5:10 left in the opening half. After winning their first penalty corner of the game, the initial shot was stopped by Widdall, but Amy Hordendorf tipped the rebound to James, who knocked the ball out of the air and in for her third goal of the season.

After UMass controlled play in the opening minutes, including earning the game's first penalty, but could not score, the Lady Eagles turned the tide in their favor, but two impressive sprawling saves by Widdall kept the game scoreless through most of the opening half.

The Minutewomen travel to Richmond to take on the Spiders at Crenshaw Field on Sunday at noon. The game can be watched on UMass All-Access and live stats will be available on GameTracker.
