Chat with Mitchell Clegg this Thursday at 11 a.m.
Chat with former UMass baseball standout left-hander Mitchell Clegg this Thursday at 11 a.m. Clegg, who is fresh off a successful season with the Vermont Lake Monsters in his first year in professional ball, will be stopping by the media relations office to answer your questions. Submit your questions now!
Mitchell Clegg: Hi and welcome to our chat.

Jo-Ann, Newburgh: Who are your favorite baseball players, past and present?
Mitchell Clegg: Right now my favorite pitcher, even though I am from Boston, is Andy Pettite and all time would be Nolan Ryan. That guy was an animal.

Peter, Greenfield: What is your favorite sport to watch?
Mitchell Clegg: My favorite sport to watch would definitely be hockey.

Ted (Boston): Hi Mitch. Did you find you had to change your approach this summer throwing to the wood bats instead of the aluminum ones in college?
Mitchell Clegg: Not really. The approach is the same, it's just that you have a lesser margin for error because the hitters are better, which makes up for the difference between the wood bat and the aluminum bat.

Joe (Amherst): How were the bus trips and meals in the NY-Penn League? Better or worse than at UMass?
Mitchell Clegg: The travel is about the same as in college. The only difference being is that you might have back-to-back long trips as opposed to having a six day or so break like you do in college.

Mickey (Agawam): Hi Mitchell. What are your plans for this off-season?
Mitchell Clegg: Do as much as I can to finish my degree and to prepare myself physically and mentally for playing next season.

Bob (Springfield): Mitchell, what part of your game do you think improved the most while pitching in Vermont this summer?
Mitchell Clegg: I'd say overall my confidence and control. The way they taught us helped you break the game down to an even more simple form than at the college level.

john (hadley): Congrats on a great career at UMass! Two questions for you. What was your favorite memory of playing at UMass and what other schools recruited you to play?
Mitchell Clegg: The biggest thrill was senior year when we went to the Atlantic 10 tournament. To keep it short, I only spent two years at UMass, before that I played at Maine.

Stephanie Clegg- Woburn, MA: How was the transition from college ball to pro ball? Did you feel well-prepared coming from UMass? What's it like playing in front of thousands of people? Are you at all nervous? Keep working hard Mitch!
Mitchell Clegg: Pro ball is more of a grind because your are evaluated on a day to day basis and for most people this is the last chance they have to continue to play. I felt well prepared because the coaches at UMass helped me develop a good work ethic. I'd rather play in front of thousands of people where it all sounds like white noise versus pitching in front of 300 people where you can here one specific person stick out.

Kevin (Amherst MA): Mitch, How Does It Feel To Be Playing For A Different Team Besides UMass? Good Luck With The New Team The Vermont Lake Monsters !
Mitchell Clegg: It's different. The biggest thing is you have to adjust to the different personalities.

Christine (Amherst): What was the nicest stadium you played in in the New York-Penn League? What was the worst?
Mitchell Clegg: The nicest field had to be the Aberdeen Ironbirds place down in Maryland. The worst, Centennial Field.

JILL MARTIN (ONEONTA): WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CITY TO VISIT IN THE NY-PENN LEAGUE? DID YOU LIKE DAMSCHKE STADIUM?
Mitchell Clegg: My favorite city to visit was Lowell because I had tons of family and friends come. Being only 10 minutes away from that stadium made it easy for people to come out.

Chucky Cheese (Santa Fe, NM): Clegger ... What other colleges were the kids on the Lake Monsters from? Any high school kids? Good luck!
Mitchell Clegg: We had kids from all over. We had kids from San Diego, Kansas State, UNLV, Georgia and a fellow A-10 member from George Washington.

Woburn, MA: How about a shout out to Woburn, MA, we'll behind you, love ya
Mitchell Clegg: It's exciting to be from Woburn because it's not necessarily known as a baseball town. Although they do have plenty of experience and people who are devoted to the youth program. From there it's easy to say that I wouldn't want to be from any other place!

Bob Munyon (Springfield): Are you going to the Big E this week? Its sweet.
Mitchell Clegg: Maybe, am I going to see you there??
Mitchell Clegg: Thanks for your questions today. And thank you for the support and let's continue to support UMass baseball!
